Champaign County Social Services Worker 2 - Investigation/Assessment Champaign County JFS
Champaign County Department of Job and Family Services is seeking multiple Social Services Worker 2 professionals to join our Protective Services Unit. These positions will focus on Child Abuse/Neglect Investigations. The ideal candidates will be flexible, collaborative, and committed to supporting children and families through comprehensive casework, permanency planning, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
General Duties (All Workers):
- Answer intake calls and document referrals for Child and Adult Protective Services.
- Provide information and referrals for non-abuse/neglect concerns.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all consumer and collateral contacts.
- Conduct safety and risk assessments and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Respond to emergency calls and participate in on‑call rotation.
- Identify and assess placement options for children in need of substitute care.
- Conduct home evaluations for kinship placements.
- Monitor children in substitute, kinship, or primary homes to ensure safety and well‑being.
- Refer families to services and monitor service use.
- Construct and manage case plans for ongoing cases.
- Prepare for and attend court hearings; complete court‑related documentation.
- Arrange and supervise visitation; provide or coordinate transportation as needed.
- Advocate for families and maintain positive relationships with community providers.
- Participate in public education and outreach efforts.
- Ensure timely school enrollment and attend educational meetings for children in care.
- Maintain timely and accurate data entry for reporting purposes.
Investigation/Assessment Duties:
- Investigate allegations and complete holistic assessments of child abuse, neglect, or dependency.
- Conduct forensic interviews with alleged child victims of sexual abuse.
- Interview children, parents, custodians, significant others, and collateral contacts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in a human services-related field OR
- Completion of at least sixty (60) semester credit hours (or equivalent) toward a degree in human services-related studies from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Note:
Candidates must obtain a job‑related bachelor’s degree no later than five (5) years after the start of employment with the agency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a closely related human services field.
- Previous experience in protective services.
