OverviewUnder the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, the Facility Mechanical Plumbing Technician maintains uninterrupted operations of threaded, flanged, groove‑locked, soldered, and pressed plumbing systems and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, installing, fabricating, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing systems such as compressed gas, backflow prev enters, sump pumps, drain/waste/vent, specialty water systems (chlorine dioxide, de‑ionized water, reverse osmosis), domestic water, heating hot‑water, and chilled water systems.
The technician also assists other trades, adheres to all safety practices, cleans work areas, attends meetings, completes documentation, provides customer service, and operates department vehicles as needed.
- Review blueprints and technical drawings and install, repair, and replace threaded, flanged, groove‑locked, soldered, and pressed piping and components.
- Measure, cut, and thread pipes using hand and power tools; inspect and identify leaks; assemble and disassemble plumbing fixtures.
- Install and maintain domestic water systems; install and repair drain, vent, and waste systems; install and repair specialty water systems.
- Install, certify, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on backflow prev enters and compressed gas systems.
- Perform plumbing and pipe‑fitting preventive maintenance (PM) activities; address customer queries; clean work areas after completion.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, document regulatory compliance tests, update building drawings, and participate on emergency response teams.
- Document labor, materials, and work performed on work orders; request required equipment and materials; communicate completed tasks to customers; initiate work order escalation when necessary.
- Participate in professional development, continuing education, meetings, trainings, orientations, and committees; assist other departments as needed.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience; two years of plumbing trade experience; valid OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Safety and Health card; EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal); valid driver’s license; successful completion of probationary period.
Desired Qualifications- Associate’s or technical degree/certificate in skilled trades or maintenance related field.
- Valid OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
Pushing and pulling up to 70 lbs; distinguishing colors; climbing and standing on ladders for extended periods.
Unusual Work ConditionsMay work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments for extended periods; may work in cramped spaces.
