POSITION PURPOSE
Fabricates, installs, and repairs sheet metal equipment and fixtures with a minimum of waste and in accordance with standards and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Perform sheet metal maintenance, repair, modifications, and other maintenance of aircraft, components, and related equipment in compliance with 14 CFR, the GMM, Company policy and procedures, and FAA/OSHA standards.
- Plan, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts, equipment, and products, utilizing knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques.
- Lay out patterns, shapes, and fabricate sheet metal.
- Install fasteners in repairs and maintenance of aircraft.
- Safely operate sheet metal forming machines, breaks, shears, cutters, and crimpers, ensuring all calibrated tooling is verified and up‑to‑date.
- Verify that materials and parts used are serviceable and appropriate for the aircraft.
- Perform duties inside and outside the hangar and at the airport terminal.
- Ensure each part or component is effective for the aircraft on which it will be installed.
- Adhere to material handling and control procedures specified by the GMM and equipment manufacturers, and initiate material requests as needed.
- Evaluate work areas and equipment to ensure safety before performing any maintenance action, applying a safety‑first mindset at all times.
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment throughout the shift.
- Update Supervisors on progress, review paperwork at shift end, and assist with shift turnover reports per GMM procedures.
- Complete all company forms, maintenance records, work orders, and perform maintenance computer system transactions as required.
- Provide coaching and on‑the‑job training as directed.
- Adhere to the established work schedule, participating in shift meetings and briefings as required.
- Submit written suggestions for operational procedure changes that enhance safety and cost‑effective maintenance.
- Use the Company Intranet to access the GMM and aircraft manuals, ensuring correct part effectivity.
- Adhere to recurrent training, including required FAA AMT training, and keep licenses and certifications up‑to‑date.
- Read and acknowledge maintenance newsletters and Company emails promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- High school diploma or equivalent with an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license.
- Technical certification or experience as a sheet metal technician.
- Ability to read blueprints and use associated tools.
- Previous experience as an A&P sheet metal mechanic or airline experience.
- Experience using a computer to access information and input data.
- No prior felony convictions and a stable employment history.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Possession of required tools.
- Ability to work both in team settings and independently.
- Able to pass an FAA 10‑year work history review and criminal background, including fingerprint checks.
- Willing to submit to FAA and Company mandated random drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively to colleagues.
- Stand, walk, and handle materials 90% of the time.
- Climb, stoop, kneel, and crawl up to 60% of the time.
- Lift up to 50 pounds at least 35% of the time; lift or move 75 pounds over 70% of the time.
- Excellent vision for seeing approaching vehicles, aircraft, and machinery.
- Work near moving mechanical parts and with fumes or airborne particles 90% of the time.
- Work in high, precarious places up to 50% of the time.
- Handle toxic or caustic chemicals up to 30% of the time.
- Risk of electric shock and occasional exposure to explosives up to 10% of the time.
- Work outdoors and indoors in an open‑air hangar and airport terminal 100% of the time.
- Work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays to support 24‑hour operations.
Able to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight stays.
