Starting Pay Range: $19.20 – $20.20 hourly (commensurate with experience)

About the Position:

As a Security Officer, you will ensure a positive customer experience by ensuring a safe and secure environment for all. You are responsible for addressing disruptive or offensive behavior, unsafe conditions, and minimizing theft of library property.

Position

Schedule:
  • Monday 9:00am-6:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 11:00am-8:00pm
  • Every Sunday 1:00pm-5:00pm
What You’ll Do:
  • Patrol buildings and grounds at regular intervals and appropriately handle observed irregularities or problems. Prevent theft of Library property and follow all issued post orders.
  • Use non‑violent crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to diplomatically confront people engaged in disruptive, offensive or inappropriate behavior; suspend from property as necessary.
  • Ensure a positive customer experience by greeting customers, answering directional questions and participating in organization‑wide initiatives/special events.
  • Respond to, investigate, and report any safety hazard, security incident, parking enforcement or emergency, including reviewing CCTV footage as needed.
  • Ensure that the building is secure at closing and that all staff and customers depart safely. Complete the issued closing checklist daily.
  • Maintain a professional appearance by keeping uniform in good condition and promptly report uniform needs to Security management.
  • Carry all necessary equipment in working order while on duty and promptly report equipment needs to Security management.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement on public safety issues. File police reports and appear in court as needed.
  • Assist in emergency response drills and other training throughout the year.
  • Assist with testing and validation of security equipment (lockdown buttons, alarm panels, panic buttons, security cameras, etc.) as needed.
  • Assist physically challenged customers entering or leaving library facilities, including as part of emergency evacuations.
  • Render first aid in medical emergencies. Contact strained medical professionals as appropriate.
  • Document incidents in the reporting software according to guidelines.
