Grocery Clerk

Ave Neu is a mission-driven grocery and community space focused on food access, culture, and care. We are seeking a reliable, friendly, and motivated Grocery & Community Store Associate to support daily store operations and provide excellent customer service.

This role involves working independently at times, maintaining a welcoming and orderly environment, and responsibly handling sales and inventory. The ideal candidate has prior retail or grocery experience, strong attention to detail, and a genuine interest in serving a diverse community. Bilingual skills are a plus. All positions are paid and offer opportunities for growth within the organization.

• Operate POS systems efficiently to process transactions accurately and securely
• Greet customers and provide helpful, respectful, and attentive customer service
• Assist customers with product questions and store navigation
• Stock shelves, organize displays, and maintain clean, accessible merchandising
• Monitor inventory levels and report low stock, damaged, or missing items
• Maintain accurate cash handling and balanced registers
• Remain present and attentive while on shift, ensuring the store is always attended
• Support merchandising strategies to improve product visibility and store flow
• Promote featured or new products when appropriate to enhance customer experience
• Maintain professional phone etiquette when communicating with customers or vendors
• Ensure the store remains clean, safe, and welcoming throughout the shift
• Follow all store policies related to pricing, sales, and inventory management

• Prior experience in retail or grocery store operations required
• Comfortable using POS systems and handling cash transactions accurately
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to perform basic retail math for transactions and inventory tracking
• Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality
• Ability to work independently and responsibly without constant supervision
• Attention to detail and respect for store procedures and community standards
• Bilingual proficiency is a plus and welcomed
• Professional demeanor and comfort interacting with a diverse customer base
• Ability to work collaboratively while also managing solo shifts when needed
