Research Scientist## Department:
Dentistry | Research Administration The Research Scientist will lead and conduct research focused on the potential of drug repurposing in oral and craniofacial tissue repair and regeneration. This includes investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying responses to metformin in dental stem cells and vascular endothelial cells to support osteogenic/angiogenic coupling in craniofacial bone regeneration.

* Responsibilities include:

* • Designing and performing advanced experiments, analyzing data, and developing innovative techniques for studying the role of metformin and organic cation transporters in the context of stem cell-based craniofacial bone regeneration.
• Designing and implementing pre-clinical experimental models to investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of locally delivered metformin in stem cell-based craniofacial bone regeneration.
• Publishing research findings in high-impact scientific journals, presenting results at national and international conferences, and contributing actively to the scientific community.
• Developing, submitting grant proposals and securing external funding for research projects.
• Setting research priorities, mentoring students and junior researchers, and planning research programs within the division.

• Selected candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen. This position is grant funded. Continuation of the role is not guaranteed and is subject to the renewal or availability of those funds.

* Physical Requirements:
** The body must be able to reach, bend, stoop and reach in order to perform most clinical procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens;
chemical hazards (skin irritants); equipment; and use of sharp instruments.

* Required Qualifications:
** Doctoral degree in pharmacology, biological sciences, biomedical sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in cell culture, immunohistochemistry, gene and protein expression assays, osteogenic/angiogenesis assays, cellular imaging, bioinformatics and animal handling. Expertise in advanced research techniques related to biguanides and organic cation transporters is required. Proven track record of research excellence, evidenced by a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals.##
