Overview
Job Title: Post Doctoral Scholar
Department: Medicine | Dermatology
A Post Doctoral Scholar (1-year term, renewable annually up to 5 years based on funding availability) will conduct independent and collaborative research projects in the Kawasumi Lab at The Ohio State University, primarily on skin cancer biology and skin cancer epigenetics. The purpose is to investigate genomic and epigenomic abnormalities in skin cancer and how modulation of DNA damage responses or epigenetic changes can inhibit skin cancer.
Responsibilities- Study UV-induced DNA damage responses and UV-mediated skin diseases (skin cancer and lupus) and skin disease epigenetics, exosomes, and 3D skin models under the direction of the PI (Dr. Masaoki Kawasumi).
- Elucidate molecular mechanisms by which cells sense UV-induced DNA lesions (CPD and 6-4PP) and activate processes such as ATR-Chk1 checkpoint signaling, DNA repair, translesion synthesis, and epigenetic changes; dissect molecular changes during cancer evolution, caffeine treatment, and UV-induced damage and lupus development.
- Work with cell culture (primary cells and established cell lines), flow cytometry, DNA replication track analysis, Western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), proteomics, next-generation sequencing and analysis, genome and epigenome editing, small-molecule screening, mouse genetic models, and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models.
- Demonstrate critical skills in molecular and cellular assays, documentation of research data, troubleshooting, teamwork, next-generation sequencing data analysis, bioinformatics and statistical analysis, scientific writing, and presenting data to various groups.
- Develop mentoring relationships, maintain effective communication, and participate in professional development activities and workshops; manage collaborations with internal and external collaborators, researchers, coordinators, physicians, and scientists.
- Mentor junior lab members, provide technical and intellectual guidance, ensure scientific integrity, develop approaches and protocols, maintain quality and cost effectiveness, and train junior scientists in standardized techniques and instrumentation.
- Contribute to the preparation of oral/poster presentations, manuscripts, grant applications, progress reports, IRB protocols, and IACUC protocols; generate data for publications and assist with grant preparation.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in biological sciences or relevant field.
