Overview
Animal Health Instructional Lab Specialist 1 (RVT Required) within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The role supports the education of veterinary students in an advanced, immersive clinical simulation center. A successful candidate will work with veterinary faculty to assist and instruct veterinary students during the first three years of their program.
Primary responsibilities include preparing and conducting laboratory sessions, demonstrating clinical skills, and providing feedback to students. The position involves training students to perform skills on major domestic animal species (e.g., canine, equine, bovine) using models, simulators, cadavers, and live animals.
Work schedule:
Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week on first shift. This position does not require on-call, overnights, or weekend shifts.

Salary:
Target Salary Range: $44,400.00 - $58,000.00 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities- Prepare and conduct laboratory sessions; demonstrate various clinical skills and provide feedback to students.
- Train students to perform these skills on major domestic animal species (canine, equine, bovine, etc.) using models, simulators, cadavers, and live animals.
- Assist with scheduling laboratory training sessions and examinations.
- Maintain laboratory areas to expected standards; maintain and coordinate care of models, simulators, and surgical equipment.
- Secure laboratory equipment and supplies; order pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, and animals for instruction.
- Coordinate sterilization, care, and maintenance of equipment as needed; maintain controlled substance and animal use records.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
- Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate degree or bachelor’s degree
- Completed and successfully passed VTNE prior to hire date
- Minimum of two years clinical experience
- Familiarity with small animal and equine species (particularly handling and restraint)
- Familiarity with anesthetic drugs and biological sampling techniques
- Familiarity with sterile surgical technique
- Lifts animals weighing 50-70 lbs
- Sharp focus vision (or corrected) and finger dexterity required
- Must be comfortable working with animal cadavers
A minimum of 3 years of previous clinical experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician; teaching or mentorship experience is ideal but not required. Computer skills are advantageous.
Working ConditionsPushing/pulling/lifting up to 70 lbs; exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases; exposure to needle sticks; hazardous chemicals and/or biohazardous waste.
