Overview
The golf course ranger ensures that golfers have an enjoyable and safe experience while playing on the course. This role involves monitoring pace of play, enforcing course rules, and providing excellent customer service to guests. Provides assistance to the golf course operation including custodial tasks involved in the maintenance of the Gahanna Municipal Golf Course. This position typically works 15-20 hours per week.
Hours may include evening and weekends.
- Responsible for educating and enforcing golf course rules and proper course etiquette.
- Provides positive customer service and positive interactions with the public.
- Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of carts.
- Establish and maintain rapport with customers and members of the golf course.
- Establish and maintain order on the first tee and ensure pace of play is maintained to course standards.
- Follow written and verbal instruction.
- Performs general maintenance of golf course including but not limited to moving tee blocks, picking up broken tees, and fixing ball marks on greens.
- Performs janitorial and custodial tasks at the Gahanna Municipal Golf Course; including maintenance and custodial tasks related to restroom facilities.
- Drive a golf cart.
- Handles equipment safely and appropriately; uses appropriate safety equipment when performing essential job functions.
- Participates in snow removal when necessary.
- This is heavy work requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constant to move objects.
Attendance
Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. A typical qualification is a High School Diploma or equivalent and an age of 18 years or older.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Current and valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna.
Knowledge of:
- The principles, practices, equipment, tools, and materials used in park maintenance and construction.
- The necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and landscaping equipment.
- Landscaping and horticulture practices as applied to parks and grounds areas.
- General understanding of golf rules and golf etiquette.
Skill in:
- Performing various manual tasks by operating assigned pieces of equipment.
Ability to: (Mental and Physical Abilities)
- Work independently with limited direction given.
- Apply problem-solving skills and perform critical thinking.
- Understand and follow specific oral instructions.
- Perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Lift heavy articles.
- Read and write letters and numbers.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
- The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.
