Location:Various sites within the Ohio History Connection site system
Compensation:$19-21/hour plus full benefits package
Summary:The Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and functional quality of outdoor spaces. This role involves performing a variety of tasks to ensure that grounds are well‑kept, safe, and visually appealing. The technician will work on landscaping, lawn care, and general maintenance duties, ensuring that all outdoor areas are clean and properly maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Perform general groundskeeping and landscape duties including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding, and maintaining lawns and flowerbeds
- Plant, fertilize, prune and apply herbicides and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees; apply topsoil, grade surfaces and lay sod
- Monitors and suggests ways to improve practices in grounds maintenance and landscaping for better environmental stewardship and financial consideration.
- With supervisor, coordinate work with external vendors, i.e., winter maintenance, mulch, tree trimming/removal
- Clean and repair tools; service and repair equipment including tractors, mowers, automotive stock, etc.
- Install and remove attachments on equipment as needed to perform tasks
- Clean and repair site facilities, including buildings
- Remove debris, snow, and ice from walkways, parking lots, and other designated areas; remove garbage from receptacles
- Maintain parking lots, roads, and sidewalks on property
- Follow all safety rules and protocols for operating equipment
- Assist with the setup and teardown of indoor and outdoor events onsite
- Assist with the maintenance, cleaning, and sanitization of restrooms and other site facilities as assigned/needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma PLUS one to three years relevant working experience OR
- Post‑secondary degree or technical certification from an accredited institution in a relevant field
Skills & Experience:
- Comfortable communicating with staff and the public.
- Ability to learn and use various office software suites to perform essential functions of the position
- Knowledge of proper operation and safety procedures for equipment necessary to perform essential functions such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other commercial landscape and maintenance equipment
- Understanding of safe handling and usage of materials necessary to perform essential functions of the position including commercial‑grade cleaning and sanitizing solutions, herbicides, and pesticides
- Valid Ohio Driver's License preferred
- Can locate and use resources to get things done, uses resources effectively and efficiently, and arranges information in a useful manner
- Assumes accountability of role and responsibilities; anticipates the needs of others
- Able to process information in a consistent manner, simultaneously displaying adaptability when necessary
- Able to carry out duties assigned by supervisor
- Able to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
Requires prolonged standing, walking, and bending. Requires frequent lifting up to 75 pounds. Required eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate groundskeeping and landscaping equipment along with basic hand and power tools. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
