The Forensic Registered Nurse, within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, will provide care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The Forensic RN functioning in the spirit of teamwork, is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of Mount Carmel Health System.
Responsibilities
Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient and family at the center of care
Follows policies, procedures, and protocols for the program including signing a contract to provide Forensic Nurse commitment
Competes detailed history of the forensic assault and assessment of injuries
Conducts and documents a forensic examination
Collaborates with the ED physician, social worker, advocates, ED nurse and law enforcement of the jurisdiction of the assault
Provides appropriate community referral for the patient that has experienced intentional violence according to the needs of the patient
Follow-up with patient after discharge to assure the needs of the patient have been met and if additional referrals are needed for ongoing medical/psychological care
Testifies in court as summoned
Requirements/Qualifications
Graduate from school of nursing
Successful completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training and additional didactic and clinical hours related to the domestic and other intentional violence related to the medico-legal examination.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
