Job Description
TITLE
Registered Nurse - Surgical Oncology

SCHEDULE

- Shift: 12-hour (Days/Nights or Nights) - rotating schedule possible

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
- Contract Length: 16 weeks

REQUIREMENTS
- License:
Valid compact or state RN license

- Certifications:

BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

- Experience:

Minimum 2 years RN experience, with at least 1 year in surgical oncology PCU/unit (stepdown/IMC) within the most recent 3 years
- Must meet specialty experience within the most recent 3 years
- EMR: EPIC
- Unit-specific skills: PCU/stepdown care, telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/management, chemotherapy administration experience, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, drips (insulin/heparin), chest tube and tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP management

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to surgical oncology patients in a mixed-acuity environment
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, including telemetry management
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and health management
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols

COMPLIANCE / NOTES
- Orientation: 72 hours (first week Mon-Fri dayshift; second week ~36 hrs on-unit with preceptor)
- Flu vaccine:
Required (medical exemptions only)
- COVID-19 vaccine:
Not required
- Strict compliance/fingerprinting requirement for Ohio:
Candidate must complete fingerprinting immediately after booking
- RTO required with submission
- References: 2 professional references required; at least 1 must be a manager/director
- Former employees eligible after 6 months away; current employees ineligible for traveler roles at Ohio State University hospital locations
- Submission requirement: RTO required with submission
