Overview
Provides patient care in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), floating between units as needed. Monitors patients with moderate to high acuity, including cardiac monitoring and critical assessments. Administers medications and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams. Ensures continuity of care and patient safety across various units.
Position details- Role:
Registered Nurse / PCU - Duration: 13 Weeks
- Start: 08/25/2025
- Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30) and Day 3x12-Hour (07:30 - 19:00). If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department’s needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4 weeks; changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.
- Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients
- High acuity PCU with some med-surg care; pediatric patients are rare and not required for agency RNs
- No set schedule; no guaranteed weekends. Facility determines the complete schedule, with the possibility of working every weekend. Must be flexible.
- Maximum 7 straight days off; 14-week contract required if taking 7 days off.

- 18J is a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
- Pediatric patients are rare and cared for by perm staff; pediatric experience is not required for agency RN here
- High-acuity PCU patient experience required
- Infection prevention protocols and patient falls focus
- 2 years oncology experience preferred, but not required
- Certifications:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS, NIH - Ratios: 1:4-5 Telemetry Med Surg; 1:3 PCU
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Previous travel experience preferred
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Accessing ports; blood product administration
- Central line care/management; peripheral line care/management
- PICC line management; starting IVs
- Heparin protocols and cardiac drips titration
- PCA pumps
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac); external CPAP/BIPAP
- HFNC; ABG interpretation; nasal cannula
- Tracheostomy management

Monday to Friday dayshift orientation - Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Note:
Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs. Weekend shifts are variable.
