Staff Nurse (RN) – New Graduate Perioperative Nurse Residency Program
DepartmentThe Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Health System Perioperative Nurse Residency Program supports new graduate nurses as they transition from student to professional clinician. It is a full‑time, 9‑month program that develops critical‑thinking skills related to clinical practice and safe patient care. Residents rotate within University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, and Same Day Surgery, gaining hands‑on experience, classroom and simulation learning, and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities- Provide patient care and supportive services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assess, prescribe, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care for patients.
- Prioritize patient care needs and lead the patient care team in development and implementation of care plans.
- Monitor patients’ conditions and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health staff, and families to create patient‑centered plans of care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Graduate from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program.
- Current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Previous experience in a relevant clinical setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to lead and develop a patient care team.

Hours:
40 per week - Shift: Rotating; final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check and may be required to undergo a drug screen or physical during the post‑offer process.
Graduate from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program required; current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required; previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred;
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
