The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.

As an RN you are granted the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to carry out assigned duties within the RN scope of practice defined by the Ohio Nurse Practice Act/ORC Chapter 4723.

Safety Factors
  • Risk Potential to Blood/Body Fluids: Category I – tasks involving exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, requiring personal protective equipment.
  • Category II – tasks with no exposure but may require performing unplanned Category I tasks.
  • Category III – no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment.
Administrative Functions
  • Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nurses and nursing assistants in accordance with regulations.
  • Ensure compliance of nursing personnel with written policies and procedures.
  • Review and recommend updates to policy manuals, job descriptions, etc.
  • Plan and conduct shift services, programs, and activities.
  • Maintain current Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Submit reports and recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with job descriptions and quality assurance program.
  • Participate in facility inspections and prepare units for surveys.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and nursing plans.
  • Assist in planning nursing components of discharge plans.
  • Conduct weekly care conferences with physiatrist.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and agencies.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Ensure accuracy of accident/incident reports.
  • Perform administrative duties including medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.
Charting and Documentation
  • Complete and file required record‑keeping forms upon admission, transfer, or discharge.
  • Review new admission charts for accuracy; report findings to the Director of Nursing.
  • Encourage physicians to review and sign treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Transcribe physician orders into resident charts.
  • Ensure nurse notes adhere to charting guidelines.
  • Document accidents/incidents involving residents.
  • Report discrepancies in physician orders, diet changes, or charting errors.
  • Complete transfer forms per procedures.
  • Record unauthorized discharges in medical records.
  • Sign and date all entries in residents’ medical record.
Drug Administration Functions
  • Ensure unit staff prepare and administer medications as ordered.
  • Maintain adequate floor stock of medications, supplies, and equipment; report needs.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as required.
  • Maintain accurate narcotic records.
  • Notify Director of Nursing of drug or narcotic discrepancies.
  • Review medication records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Notify attending physician of automatic stop orders before final dose.
  • Dispose of drugs and narcotics in accordance with procedures.
Personnel Functions
  • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing recommendations.
  • Report staffing needs when personnel are absent.
  • Notify Director of Nursing of absentee call‑ins.
  • Evaluate workforce and recommend to Nurse Supervisor.
  • Develop work assignments and assist in implementation.
  • Provide leadership to unit nursing personnel.
  • Conduct daily rounds to ensure quality of nursing service personnel; report issues to Director of Nursing.
  • Supervise nurse aide trainees.
  • Meet with shift personnel to identify and correct problems and improve services.
  • Ensure personnel, residents, and visitors follow policies.
  • Build positive rapport with inter‑departmental staff.
  • Create a warm and calm unit environment.
  • Review complaints and grievances filed by personnel; report to Director of Nursing.
