University Hospital – 9 West Doan Hall, Surgical with Burn (Doan Hall 0089)

Regular – 36 hours per week – Rotating Shift

The team provides patient care and supportive services directed toward achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care.

The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient‑care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.

Two‑year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in nursing.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in nursing.

Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program. Current Ohio license or interim permit. Experience in a relevant care setting preferred.

• 9 West Doan is a 22‑bed unit in the Acute Care Department. We specialize in burn care while also housing post‑surgical patients from a variety of specialties including plastic surgery, urology, ENT, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and gynecology.
• Unit culture emphasizes a team‑based approach to compassionate care.
• Nurses can receive advanced training in the burn procedural room, working one‑on‑one with patients to perform dressing changes and specialized burn treatments.
• Nurses will be trained to complete complex interventions for highly acute patients.
• Unit will move to the New Inpatient Tower in February 2026.
