The Feed Mill Technician supports the research and education programs of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences by preparing animal feed. This role involves precise weighing and mixing of ingredients, maintaining detailed records, and operating various feed processing equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare feed premixes by accurately weighing and mixing ingredients.
- Maintain detailed records for the withdrawal of feed ingredients according to US Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
- Assist in quantifying experimental diets.
- Collect feed and grain samples for laboratory analysis.
- Operate a computer-controlled batching and processing system to convey, mix, and process feed.
- Operate pellet mills, grinders, and mixers to ensure feeds are processed according to quality standards.
- Operate feed bagging equipment.
- Assist with loading/unloading delivery trucks and store/organize supplies.
- Operate a forklift.
- Repair and maintain conveyors, mixers, grinders, and other feed processing equipment.
- Clean mixers and bucket elevators to minimize cross-contamination.
- Clean facility and work areas.
- Assist with monitoring and recording inventory.
- Report daily production status to the supervisor.
- Follow the safety program for feed mill operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to work overtime or an adjusted schedule to meet production schedules.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- 0 years of relevant experience required.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in feed mill operations or a related field.
- Experience operating and maintaining feed processing equipment.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
- Familiarity with US Food and Drug Administration guidelines for feed ingredients.
- Full-time position with benefits and pension options.
