Safety & DOT Compliance Manager

Location: Columbus, OH

Must-Haves
  • DOT Certification and/or CDL (or ability to obtain)
  • Hands-on CDL training experience
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA and DOT compliance regulations
  • Experience in the waste or trucking industry preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and influence teams effectively
  • Ability to operate a commercial vehicle in compliance with DOT regulations
Position Overview

We are seeking a Safety & DOT Compliance Manager to lead all safety, regulatory, and compliance programs for fleet and field operations. This hands‑on leadership role is critical to protecting employees, equipment, and organizational reputation. You will drive a safety‑first culture, maintain audit readiness, and ensure full compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations in a fast‑paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and Clearinghouse requirements
  • Serve as primary liaison for DOT, FMCSA, and regulatory agencies
  • Oversee and manage Drug & Alcohol Testing Programs
  • Monitor CSA scores and proactively address safety trends
  • Prepare for and lead DOT audits and inspections
  • Track accidents, violations, and corrective actions to reduce future risk
  • Maintain driver qualification files and onboarding compliance
  • Deliver safety training to drivers and labor staff
  • Develop, update, and maintain safety manuals, policies, and documentation
  • Lead engaging safety meetings using real‑world examples and training materials
  • Coach employees through corrective actions while reinforcing accountability
  • Recognize and promote safe driving behaviors and performance
  • Promote and strengthen a safety‑first culture across all locations
  • Manage workers’ compensation injuries and claims
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with field teams and leadership
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time‑management abilities
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of commercial vehicle mechanics and equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Windows platforms
  • Strong investigative and problem‑solving skills
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Onsite, in‑person leadership role
  • 50–55 hours per week average (flex occasionally up to 60)
  • Typical schedule:

    6 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Fast‑paced operational setting requiring high visibility and engagement
