Job Summary

The Manager, Facilities Alterations, Operations & Maintenance coordinates site operations by ensuring safe and reliable function of facilities and compliance with all relevant regulations. The Supervisor will also coordinate services for building automation controls, site utilities, mechanical and electrical systems repairs and replacements, refrigerant management, coordination of service agreements and contractors, support of modernization projects, and support of research department specialty systems and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and execution of a compliant facilities alterations, operations, and maintenance program, focusing on critical facilities.
  • Support the Manager in establishing strategic department goals, determining priorities, implementing plans, monitoring progress, and modifying plans as needed.
  • Aid in general management activities such as recruiting, selecting, promoting, compensating, appraising, and terminating staff.
  • Ensure work performed by the department is integrated with site operations and performed safely and effectively, including scheduling of outages and shut down work.
  • Assist in overseeing an effective preventive maintenance program using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); monitor and record effectiveness of maintenance activities and direct personnel usage to ensure timely coverage of service tickets and shifts.
  • Support the Manager in maintaining facility investment strategy through risk‑based planning.
  • Interface with the Facilities Planning, Engineering, and Construction team for the coordination of facility improvements and capital investment planning.
  • Support all aspects of Facilities operations and maintenance, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, building exteriors and grounds, roofs, roads, parking lots, walkways, etc., and may include alterations projects and project management of small cost capital improvement projects.
Key Qualifications
  • Requires a high school diploma plus continuing education in a facilities related field and 10 years’ experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Experience in facility related operations in a laboratory environment, including technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of project management, quality assurance, and environmental, safety and health policies and procedures.
  • Experience and expertise in using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within a matrixed organization.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance.
