Sr. Associate Director of Custodial Operations

Position Type:

The Sr. Associate Director of Custodial Operations provides leadership and oversight to the custodial operations in all Student Life facilities, which includes residence halls, recreational sports facilities, Ohio Union, and event spaces. This role directs a department of approximately 200 FTE, including managers and front‑line custodial staff who work a 24/7 operation. Responsibilities include developing and managing an annual operating budget of $13M+, approving purchases and managing controls, developing efficiencies across assigned areas, ensuring operations are not adversely affected, and leading a high‑performing leadership team.
The director plans, coaches, evaluates, and develops direct reports, leads search committees for vacant positions, and contributes to the development of the SL Facilities strategic plan. They work with the management team to identify training and development needs, establish operational goals and accountability measures to meet cleanliness standards, maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and oversee the annual Summer turn process and contracted custodial services contracts.
The role requires flexible scheduling and on‑call duties and may participate in the SL Emergency and Crisis Response team and various committees.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 7 years of relevant experience and 6–8 years of custodial management with a progression of administrative responsibilities or leadership role in facility operations in higher education or large budget operations. Valid driver’s license. Experience maintaining and managing budgets/PL, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CMI Basic Custodian certification, CMI Basic Custodian Train the Trainer certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months), APPA custodial methodologies/work loading experience, and excellent verbal and written skills.
- Desired: Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, College coursework or degree in Facility Management or related field, 12+ years of relevant experience, experience with a CMMS (preferably CMS), and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
The targeted pay range for this position is $103,000 – $134,500 based on education and experience.
