Overview
Position: Director of Safety, Facilities, and Operations
Reports to: Superintendent
Employment Status: Full-time
FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) Status: Administrative
Job Description: To provide leadership and oversight of building-level management and adherence to Board of Education policies to focus on the district's facilities and necessary maintenance and improvement planning. The position will oversee safety and security, custodial staff, buildings and grounds, facilities management, food services, and transportation. Responsibilities of this position are accomplished by building collaborative and productive working relationships with administrators, staff, external agencies, and the Bexley City Schools Community.
Responsibilities- Implements comprehensive safety protocols, including threat assessment and emergency response plans, to maintain a secure environment for students and staff
- Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops related to school safety to stay abreast of updates and new information
- Keeps the district leadership, Superintendent, and School Board abreast on district-wide matters related to safety and security
- Coordinates annual school safety training for staff and conducts periodic reviews
- Facilitates the scheduling and documentation of all required safety drills in district buildings
- Works cooperatively with city and county officials in regards to student and staff safety
- Supervises and evaluates:
Business Manager;
Food Services Director;
Maintenance Office Manager; custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff - Oversee the operation and maintenance of the school physical plant, including new, replacement, or renovation construction projects
- Evaluate existing facilities to support enrollment and academic programming
- Maintain effective communications with students, staff, and parents to elicit support and to seek perspectives and ideas in district facilities planning
- Research and make recommendations for improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of the repair, maintenance, and cleaning services so that attractive, healthy, and safe facilities are provided
- Administer, develop, refine, and implement emergency management plans for the District in collaboration with the Business Manager
- Provide training to administrators on emergency management plans and assist building administrators to ensure consistent implementation of drills and procedures
- Assume responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of support staff personnel
- Oversee the student transportation program
- Oversee the district’s food service program
- Assist administrators in researching district policies and administrative guidelines with relations to facilities and operations
- Assist in the development of policies related to facilities and operations
- Prepare reports for the Board of Education as needed
- Act as Superintendent’s designee for Step II classified grievances when assigned
- Assist Superintendent in working with classified union leadership to resolve issues and concerns
- Serve as primary District level contact and liaison for community concerns related to safety, operations, and facilities
- Assist with building administration duties in the event a principal is absent
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or their designee
- Master’s degree or higher in educational leadership, policy, or human resources
- Demonstrated experience at the building or district supervisory level
- Eligible for an Ohio Administrative Specialist, Principal, or Superintendent license; or Local, Assistant, or Superintendent certificate
- Satisfactory criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law
- Training and experience in comprehensive safety protocols in a school setting preferred
- Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent
