Goldman Braunstein Stahler Kenter, LLP ("GBSK") is a Columbus‑based law firm devoted exclusively to representing landowners in various types of litigation, including eminent domain, as well as transactional practice involving the purchase and sale of real estate, and wind, solar, and cell tower leases. We represent landowners in both negotiations and trials, and we are known for achieving results that significantly exceed initial offers made by government entities and private companies seeking to use or acquire our clients’ property.

We are seeking a Staff Attorney to support both our litigation and transactional practice and to work closely with our attorney partners on matters involving our landowner clients across Ohio.

Position Overview

The Staff Attorney will play a key role in supporting eminent domain and real‑property litigation matters from early case development through resolution. This position is well‑suited for an attorney with 1-3 years of experience, which may include litigation or transactional coursework in law school, and who is interested in litigation, legal writing, and discovery, and who is looking to work on real cases, hearings, trials, and real estate contracts under the guidance of experienced attorneys.

The role is litigation‑focused and support‑oriented, with significant responsibility in discovery, motion practice, legal research, and trial preparation.

Responsibilities Discovery and Case Development
  • Draft written discovery requests and responses in eminent domain and real‑property litigation matters
  • Review opposing discovery responses and identify deficiencies
  • Draft meet‑and‑confer and deficiency letters
  • Assist with preparation of discovery‑related motions and filings
  • Review documents, appraisals, and other materials relevant to property valuation
Legal Research and Writing
  • Conduct legal research on issues involving eminent domain, easements, property valuation, real‑property rights, and related procedural matters
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, and routine motions under attorney supervision
  • Assist with briefing related to motions, evidentiary issues, and trial preparation
Litigation Support
  • Monitor court dockets and track filings, deadlines, and case developments
  • Assist with deposition preparation and review of deposition transcripts
  • Support preparation for hearings, mediations, and jury trials
  • Attend hearings, trials, and depositions in a second‑chair/support role
Client and Practice Support
  • Handle limited and routine client communications, including status updates and procedural questions
  • Coordinate with opposing counsel on discovery and scheduling issues
  • Work closely with attorneys and staff to ensure matters are handled efficiently and professionally
Transactional
  • Review and revise complex leases for wind, solar, and cell tower facilities under the guidance of experienced attorneys
  • Draft, review, and revise purchase and sale agreements for real property under the guidance of experienced attorneys
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in Ohio
  • 1–3 years of legal experience, which may include litigation or transactional coursework in law school
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively in a boutique law firm environment
  • Interest in litigation, eminent domain, and real‑property law
  • Strong written communication skills and comfort working with detailed factual records
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Hands‑on experience in real cases, including trials and hearings
  • Close collaboration with experienced attorneys adept at teaching and providing guidance
  • A collegial, professional environment focused on quality advocacy and client service
  • The opportunity to build a strong foundation in litigation and transactional practice
