Legal Office Chief, Attorney 6 (PN )
Position within the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH).
What You’ll Do- Serve as trusted legal advisor to Agency Director, Deputy Directors, and senior leadership.
- Represent DBH in complex and sensitive legal matters.
- Assist in the development, revision, interpretation, and implementation of agency policies related to legal and administrative operations, administrative rules, public records requests, Medicaid matters, licensure and certification issues.
- Ensure consistent and compliant application of legal standards across the agency.
- Develop, coordinate, and administer agency legal policy.
- Manage agency litigation, including assigning and monitoring cases, tracking progress, estimating potential liability, developing recommendations related to settlements, negotiating or drafting settlement proposals, directing preparation of legal documentation, and approving all legal actions.
- Supervise, assign, and evaluate legal and support staff.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development to ensure high-quality legal services.
- Deliver legal training and guidance to agency leadership and staff as needed.
- Admission to the Ohio Bar.
- Minimum of 24 months experience as a licensed attorney.
- Minimum of 12 months experience in supervisory principles/techniques.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in management.
Hourly position, exempt from bargaining units. Pay ranges for E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule Step 1 to Step 16. Normal working hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (flexible schedule). Opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance.
