Job DescriptionWhat We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to join our team as a senior staff attorney with the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.

As senior staff attorney, you’ll provide legal support to DMWM with operations‑critical work like negotiating environmental enforcement cases, drafting legal contracts, environmental covenants, and other agreements. You’ll act as liaison between the agency’s legal, division and district offices, and the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and coordinate with the AGO on appeals and enforcement cases filed with ERAC or in Ohio Courts.
You’ll provide legal advice to agency staff regarding environmental, property, and administrative law. You’ll also conduct legal research and support rule making and legislation related to Ohio's solid waste laws.
- Draft and negotiate enforcement-related documents.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal advice to staff and senior management.
- Provide legal advice and support on rule making and legislation.
- Review public records for confidentiality/public disclosure.
- Review/draft contracts, grants, access agreements, and environmental covenants.
- Provide legal advice on procedural requirements related to permitting or licensing activities.
- Negotiate environmental enforcement cases.

Qualifications- ENVIRONMENTAL LAW/EDUCATION PREFERRED
- Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; AND 12 months experience as licensed attorney; AND 6 months experience in employee training & development.
