As a Senior Research Data Scientist within the Department of Neurology, you will spearhead the development and implementation of advanced analytical frameworks, ranging from distributed computing and machine learning to high-fidelity agent-based simulations. You will apply complex bioinformatics concepts to design and implement the analysis of large datasets of multi-omics data to decipher alterations in gene expression regulation in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.
Responsibilities- Provide ad-hoc technical support and build/modifying tools for the analysis of a diverse collection of biological data.
- Maintain pipelines to process sequencing data, including whole-genome bisulfite sequencing, ATAC-seq, RNAseq, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.
- Create new visual summaries of the data, download and pilot new analysis tools, and work with the San Diego Super Computer Center and AWS for storage and processing needs.
- Integrate with a team of molecular and cellular biologists and neuroscientists performing statistics-based analysis to achieve high-impact results.
- Assist with web-based tool development and provide minor IT assistance when requested.
- Mentor junior analysts, facilitate knowledge transfer through training and scholarly publications, and develop open-source tools to empower the broader research community.
- PhD degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related field.
- Previous experience in a research setting.
- 6 years of relevant experience required.
- 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
