Overview
We are seeking a Network Systems Engineer to support monitoring, tool integration, customer support, vendor coordination, and problem resolution within a 24x7 network security operations environment. This role will develop, maintain, and support systems and third-party integrations using commercial, open-source, and internally developed tools. The position provides direct support to customers during network security-related events and plays a key role in operational security services.
Responsibilities- Perform network traffic and packet analysis
- Conduct network scanning using commercial and open-source security tools
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party network security services
- Integrate reporting and monitoring tools with ITSM and log management platforms
- Provide real-time incident response support for DDoS and other disruptive network events
- Deliver technical assistance and consultation to customers
- Develop and maintain technical documentation
- Provide operational support to internal teams
- Build and maintain dashboards, visualizations, and usage reporting
- This position offers scheduling flexibility and participates in an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support. Continuing education and professional development are encouraged and supported.
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience with Python in a Unix/Linux development environment
- 2+ years of experience with Unix shell scripting
- Experience with version control systems (Git or similar)
- Exposure to C/C++ programming
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IT service management platforms (e.g., Service Now or similar)
- Experience working in a service provider or large-scale IP network environment
- Experience with cloud-based development (AWS or similar)
- Experience with log management, SIEM tools, or vulnerability scanners
- Relevant networking certifications (e.g., Juniper or similar vendor certifications)
- Security Operations & Tool Integration - 40%:
Coordinate with external security partners and internal teams to integrate security event reporting into the organization's ticketing platform. Develop customer-facing security notifications and maintain security monitoring tools, including packet and flow analysis systems. - Incident Response & Customer Support - 35%:
Respond to network security events, including DDoS mitigation and external requests. Work within an ITSM platform to track and resolve incidents. Perform security reporting, auditing, and monitoring. - Documentation & Design Support - 15%:
Maintain standard operating procedures, method of procedure documents, and software design documentation. Collaborate with engineering teams on network diagrams and infrastructure documentation. - Other Duties - 10%:
