Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities

• Support multiple projects focusing on application automation and system performance (not automation development using Python).
• Perform performance analysis and optimization on Mainframe (System 16 environment).
• Automate repetitive operational tasks related to deployments, monitoring, and incident response.
• Implement infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., Terraform or Cloud Formation).
• Analyze and interpret large datasets to develop predictive performance models.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using profiling and monitoring tools.
• Build data-driven solutions to optimize system parameters and improve throughput and latency.
• Design and maintain observability systems to monitor KPIs using tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Establish and track SLOs/SLIs, creating alerts for critical performance issues.
• Collaborate with application development teams to integrate performance insights and data-driven solutions.
• Communicate findings through dashboards, reports, and presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers on mainframe performance and automation best practices.

Technical Skills

Mainframe & Performance

• Strong mainframe expertise (z/OS or equivalent).
• Experience in performance tuning, resource optimization, and monitoring.

Programming & Scripting

• Python – required (for scripting, data analysis, and performance monitoring; not for automation development).
• Java – nice to have.
• REXX – experience preferred for mainframe scripting.

Data & Analytics

• DB2 Database: reporting, maintenance, and issue resolution.
• SQL: required for performance queries and data extraction.
• Data analysis tools: Pandas, Num Py, Tensor Flow, Scikit-learn, or PySpark.
• Visualization tools: Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools (Cognos preferred but not required).

Infrastructure & Dev Ops

• Familiarity with Terraform, Cloud Formation, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of SRE principles and monitoring frameworks (Prometheus, Grafana).

Pay Range: $65- $70

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
