Overview
The Sr Patient Care Associate (PCA) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA), Student Nursing Assistant (SNA) and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs.
Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The Sr PCA will support the patient care treatment process by assisting the physicians, registered nurses, and other clinical staff in the appropriate delivery of patient care services. The Sr PCA may be expected to perform multiple advanced clinical support tasks without supervision.
This senior level role is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse and manager(s). Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient focused care team.
- Support the patient care treatment process by assisting physicians, registered nurses, and other clinical staff in the delivery of patient care services.
- Perform multiple advanced clinical support tasks as directed and supervised by the RN and management.
- Collaborate with the patient, family, and care team to provide patient-focused care and contribute to positive patient care outcomes.
- Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED preferred. - Must be employed as a PCA/PCT for at least one year at OSU Medical Center.
- Experience in the advanced clinical support skills required by the clinical department (on-the-job or via educational program) and documented.
- BLS certification is required.
