Health Educator
Overview
The Educator acts as a subject matter expert in sterile processing, infection prevention, instrumentation, and quality assurance, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence. The Central Sterile Supply Educator designs, develops, implements and evaluates classroom and clinical instruction to support ongoing educational needs in CSS. The Educator provides support, guidance, and direction to the Central Sterile team to attain/maintain quality surgical instruments, customer service and safe patient care in clinical areas.
The Educator collaborates within the Operating Rooms and CSS to cultivate collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The Educator coordinates annual competency development and updates, ensures certifications are accurate and updated in Workday, supports cross-training, and assists with development and revision of competencies. The Educator incorporates clinical practice knowledge and adult learning principles and serves as a role model and resource for staff development.
- Facilitate educational activities to ensure provision of surgical instruments through educational initiatives.
- Consult and collaborate with all members of the health care team to support education and practice in CSS and operating rooms.
- Provide supportive services directed toward annual competencies completion and updating of competencies as needed.
- Associates degree in healthcare or a related field.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) – Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification issued through The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within six months of hire.
- 2 years of relevant experience required.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
