Job Title: Surgical Technologist - Inpatient - IRP
Department: University Hospital | Perioperative Administration
Responsibilities- Maintains open lines of communication and provides input regarding operational issues related to physician requests, preferences and supplies or equipment necessary.
- Research physician needs related to area of specialty.
- Communicates physician needs with manager/director/purchasing, CSS and other departments as needed in order to coordinate patient care.
- Manages all aspects of physician preference cards.
- Communicates with all members of the perioperative team regarding physician requests, preferences, supplies and equipment.
- Coordinates for necessary supplies and equipment related to area of specialty. Conducts self in a professional manner. Treat all individuals as customers.
- Serves on committees and/or task forces.
- Collaborates with CSS ensuring correctness and completeness of instrument sets.
- Collaborates with Materials Management ensuring that all necessary supplies, equipment and implants are available for procedures.
- Promotes quality of care by gaining and sharing necessary knowledge regarding a needed area of patient care. Receives report from Night shift.
- Checks on staffing assignments with OR schedule to assure adequate and appropriate staffing.
- Checks on rooms to verify equipment is available, beds appropriate, instruments ready and patient’s needs are accommodated.
- Checks on rooms to make sure cases are getting started on time. Manages time and breaks and lunches as assigned.
- Documents and reports to nursing management any unusual occurrences and/or incidences. Monitors schedule and orders special equipment and supplies for upcoming cases.
- Turns in appropriate paperwork in timely fashion.
- Monitors OR and Hospital policies and procedures for environmental issues. Monitors aseptic technique.
- Responds to all Codes in the OR when available. Responds to all incorrect counts in the OR when available. Attends meetings on time when able.
- Evaluates orientees and assures competencies.
- Serves as a resource for instrument questions from CSS and 4th floor processing. Participates in the training of CSS staff members related to instrument processing needs. Initiates work orders to repair broken equipment.
- Initiates loaner instrument requests. Follows up on items sent for repairs.
- Assists education staff with training in-services on new equipment. Serves as preceptor to personnel rotating through perioperative services.
- Assists in the clinical evaluation of professional and paraprofessional personnel.
- Facilitates integration of new members in all roles into the team; effectively communicates and collaborates with all members of the team; promotes teamwork through interaction.
- Assesses learning needs of new team members; plans and implements learning activities based on assessments.

Must be a high school graduate or possess the GED, and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent. Previous experience in the Operating Room as Surgical Technologist is preferred. CST or TS-C certification is required. - Ongoing
