Job DescriptionResearch Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study peripheral neuropathy as directed in the Department of Neurological Surgery in the Townsend Lab for Neurobiology and Energy Balance; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including but not limited to PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Northern and Western analysis;
sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs research procedures on patient participants in an IRB‑approved study; records, consolidates, and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists the principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts;
conducts library research on requested topics through reviewing current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training junior research staff, undergraduate, and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supplies, including specimens and inventory, and initiates procurement requests as needed. This position is 25% lab management/administration and 75% clinical research duties, including human patient measurements and interaction, data management and analyses, and human tissue processing and analyses in the lab.
Years of relevant experience required: 0 years with Bachelor's Degree, 2 years with Associate's Degree, or 4 years with High School Diploma
