Anatomy Lab Technologist

Overview

The Anatomy Lab Technologist manages all laboratories within the Division of Anatomy (gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, etc.) in the Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy within the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include restocking supplies, cleaning labs, serving as the primary point of contact for courses and programs, coordinating lab setup and calendars, ensuring safe disposal of chemicals and biological hazards, coordinating deep cleaning and equipment maintenance, providing basic technical support, maintaining inventories of anatomical materials and teaching resources, and contributing to the development of standard operating procedures.

The role collaborates with faculty, teaching assistants, and programs outside the division and works closely with the Anatomy Morgue Technician for lab turnover, preparation, and maintenance.

• Restock supplies (e.g., gloves, wetting solutions, surgical gowns) and clean labs (trash, spills, countertops, materials).
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all courses and programs, with regular lab presence.
• Coordinate lab setup with faculty, undergraduate/graduate teaching assistants, and external programs.
• Coordinate all lab calendars and scheduling of teaching sessions.
• Arrange and supervise proper disposal of chemicals and biological hazards; coordinate deep cleaning with the housekeeping manager.
• Direct and/or assist in cleaning of technical equipment; schedule maintenance of lab equipment with providers.
• Provide basic technical support for labs.
• Maintain an up-to-date list of all anatomical material prosections, monitoring condition, quality, and quantity; assist in preparation and storage of prosections.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all lab supplies and teaching resources (e.g., manuals, specimens, tools for dissection/demonstration); coordinate ordering and receiving supplies and equipment for teaching labs.
• Implement and educate students on best health and safety practices, including ethical handling of human material; uphold high standards of donor care.
• Collaborate with the Anatomy Morgue Technician for lab turnover, preparation, and maintenance; assist in developing standard operating procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Anatomical Services and Body Donation Program.

• Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences or Biological Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions, and communicate with students, faculty, and external attendees.
• Position involves pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and walking.
• Requires successful completion of a background check; may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
