Focus on women’s and infants’ health. Labor and Delivery provides 24‑hour care to high‑risk/low‑risk obstetrical and outpatient gynecology patients and immediate stabilization of the newborn. The Surgical Technologist (ST) is an integral member of a team of care providers in the Labor and Delivery Operating Rooms at the OSU Wexner Medical Center.
Position SummaryThe ST performs technical skills related to intra‑operative patient care, generally assigned to perform the scrub role in various surgical procedures and also performs routine unit tasks. The ST provides emergency care measures as appropriate, assists in meeting the patient’s emotional needs, follows universal precautions, safety handling guidelines and infection control standards, maintains a clean/organized peri‑operative unit, promotes a positive attitude to staff, families and patients, maintains patient confidentiality, and works under the supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator‑RN (PCC‑RN) and the Labor and Delivery Manager.
The ST performs tasks in a cost‑effective manner, meets continuing education and certification requirements, and supports departmental goals. Responsibilities include scrubbing, assisting physicians, providing direct care, maintaining supplies and equipment for procedures, L&D and Maternal Special Care rooms, and performing adjunct or “in lieu of” UCA responsibilities.
