Speech Language Pathologist

Nationwide Children’s Hospital – Apply to join our team of dedicated speech‑language pathologists who diagnose and treat speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders to improve patients’ communication abilities and quality of life.

Job Description Summary

Diagnoses and treats speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders, applying evidence‑based therapeutic techniques to help patients achieve communication goals and regain functional independence.

Essential Functions
  • Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations; identifies strengths and deficits, establishes goals, and develops individualized treatment plans that incorporate patient and family needs.
  • Administers therapeutic treatment for patients with developmental delay or functional deficits, utilizing developmental activities and other treatment techniques to meet therapeutic goals and monitoring progress.
  • Educates patients and families on treatment goals and provides instruction for home activities, evaluating ongoing compliance and understanding.
  • Documents therapy sessions in compliance with hospital and accrediting association requirements; maintains administrative functions of caseload, including scheduling, charging, and submission of documentation.
  • Communicates patient status and collaborates with physicians, third‑party payors, and other healthcare providers.
  • Conducts speech‑language pathology educational programs; provides instruction to hospital staff, students, and community members; supervises Clinical Fellows and licensed speech aides.
Education Requirement

Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology – required.

Licensure Requirement

Valid Ohio License in Speech Pathology – required.

Certifications
  • Certification in Speech Pathology from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association, or eligibility for supervision during a fellowship experience – required.
  • CPR certification, required.
Experience

Previous pediatric experience – preferred.

Physical Requirements

Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs; reaching overhead; use of computer and handling of medical equipment; basic hearing acuity and visual assessment required for effective therapy delivery.
