Scope/Position Summary
This position functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC outpatient and retail areas. Duties include but are not limited to: medication order approval and distribution; assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy; patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions and appropriate regimens; patient counseling; disease state management; coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses.
Patient population includes pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the pharmacist must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to each age group. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, other health‑care professionals, and insurance companies. This position also supervises technicians, undergraduate and graduate student teaching, and provides educational programs for hospital/clinic staff (physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio.
- 1–3 years’ experience in retail or health‑system outpatient pharmacy preferred.
- Perform professional, supervisory, and teaching functions outlined above.
- Continue to meet competency and licensure expectations of a retail specialty pharmacist.
