Overview

Retail Pharmacist - Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This position focuses on safe, efficient, high quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based medication services to all patients in outpatient specialty pharmacy settings.

Responsibilities
  • Check prepared medications and oversee dispensing of traditional and mail order prescriptions from the pharmacy.
  • Complete clinical patient review for safety and accuracy.
  • Provide drug information to patients and family members, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, medical students, and other hospital personnel as a resource.
  • Screen for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug-allergy, drug-food, drug-disease state, and drug-laboratory interactions.
  • Submit insurance claims and communicate with insurance companies as necessary.
  • Participate in hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to the practice area.
Position Summary
  • Coordinate all aspects of patients  specialty pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC inpatient and outpatient areas.
  • Medication order approval and distribution; ensure appropriate dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy.
  • Review patient medication profiles for interactions and duplication of therapy; provide patient counseling and disease state management.
  • Coordinate pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses; communicate effectively with patients and other health care providers and insurance companies.
  • Supervise technicians, oversee teaching of undergrad and grad students, and provide educational programs for learners.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor s Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio.
  • 1-3 years of experience in retail or specialty pharmacy preferred.

Performs professional, supervisory, and teaching functions as outlined above. Maintains clinical privileges and licensure through OSUWMC.
