Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) within the Ohio Scope of Practice provides therapeutic procedures and diagnostic testing to chronically and acutely ill patients requiring respiratory procedures.

• Education:
  
  Successful completion of a 2‑ or 4‑year Respiratory Care Program or additional educational requirements allowing eligibility to obtain registry credentials.
• Licensure / Certification:
  Ohio Respiratory Care Professional License and National Board credential indicating RRT or CRT.
• Experience:
  
  Clinical experience in adult and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures such as aerosolized delivery of medication, mechanical ventilation, intubation and extubation, pulmonary function studies, emergency care, and arterial blood gas interpretation.
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Provide Respiratory Care, ensure patient safety, promote evidence‑based practice, and exhibit professionalism in patient care and families.
• Perform duties or responsibilities outside the normal routine care of the patient.
• Initiate and administer therapeutic procedures, diagnostic tests and education in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
• Record information and patient assessment in the medical record and maintain departmental records.
• Precept new employees as requested and participate in student clinical rotations.
• Demonstrate knowledge and ability to maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
• Communicate pertinent clinical information and collaborate with physicians, house staff and other health care disciplines regarding patient care, treatment and plan of care.
