Title
Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
Reports ToDirector of Special Services and Building Principals
Job GoalCommunication specialist who works with both the general education and special education population with language handicaps, articulation deficits, dysfluencies, voice disorders, pragmatics, aural rehabilitation, auditory processing, and augmentative communication systems.
Qualifications- Valid Ohio Speech and Hearing Pathologist Department of Education Certificate.
- State of Ohio Licensure as a Speech/Pathologist.
- Demonstrated ability in providing speech and language services to children.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness in working as a team member.
- Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced speech and language program.
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, expressive and receptive language, pragmatics, fluency, voice, aural rehab, auditory processing, and augmentative systems.
- Conducts initial evaluations and/or three year re-evaluations as needed for individual children preschool through 22 years of age.
- Serves as a member of a multi factored evaluation team to determine eligibility of students.
- Provides appropriate individualized therapy programs to address individual student’s needs and improve upon speech and language impairments.
- Provides direct speech/language therapy and/or classroom consultation services in whatever is determined to be the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
- Provide screening to identify students who are at-risk and/or demonstrate communication characteristics which may adversely affect or impact their education performance.
- Collaborates with parents, teachers, and other members of an interdisciplinary team to implement and integrate therapy strategies for the student’s daily activities.
- Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Completes all mandated process procedures including Evaluation Team Report (ETR) documentation, as part of the Multifactored Evaluation (MFE) process, Individual Education Program (IEP) development and implementation.
- Maintains accurate records. Prepares and submits all required reports including but not limited to federal child count data, final reports, documentation log, etc.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of negotiated contract.
EvaluationOf this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel and provisions of the collaborative bargaining agreement.
Additional Working Conditions- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Excellent observation and communication skills
- May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
- Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
- Frequent evening and/or weekend work
