Histology Technician/Technologist – College of Medicine, Pathology Department
Job DescriptionHistology Technician/Technologist to work in the Histology Laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology in the Department of Pathology.
Processes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue specimens in a high volume patient care lab utilizing tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers and cover slippers; processes, cuts and stains formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue samples for patient diagnosis; prepares and changes reagents and properly disposes chemical wastes; sorts, delivers and files slides and blocks; assists with ordering, receiving, labeling and stocking incoming supplies and reagents;
assists with quality control and quality assurance record keeping; assists in training personnel as needed; completes and organizes paperwork; assists with maintenance of equipment; other duties as assigned.
Associate Degree and one year of histology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Some positions will require ASCP (HT/HTL) certification within 2 years of hire.
