At Ohio EPA our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What We Need YOU To Do

We want you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at our Central office in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

Opportunity Summary

We seek a conscientious person with the skills and drive to help protect Ohio’s waterways by monitoring municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.

Your primary role is to inspect existing wastewater treatment facilities to ensure they are operating in compliance with state and federal requirements.

Your oversight includes review of required operation and maintenance reports from facilities to track their continued compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. When necessary, you will coordinate collection of discharge samples and data on plant performance.

With your commitment to excellent customer service, you ll promptly respond to and investigate citizen inquiries and complaints. You ll assist in preparing enforcement actions against sites to address non-compliance issues and participate in adjudication hearings, litigation, and appeal cases as needed.

As a subject matter expert, you will assist officials, industry, consultants, and the public with understanding wastewater treatment practices and regulatory requirements.

Job Basics
  • Inspect wastewater treatment plants to determine compliance with state permits and regulations.
  • Review facilities’ monitoring reports required by NPDES permits.
  • Track permit compliance and prepare enforcement actions and correspondence.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal and external constituents.
