Position Overview
We are a growing real estate investment and development firm with an active portfolio of construction, development, and stabilized assets. The company is expanding rapidly through new development, acquisitions, and capital partnerships and is seeking a high-level Construction Controller to lead the accounting and finance function with a clear path to CFO.
The Construction Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations related to development, construction, and property operations. This individual will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, providing financial leadership, operational insight, and scalable infrastructure to support continued growth. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who understands construction accounting at a granular level but can also think strategically about capital structure, growth, and long‑term enterprise value.
Construction& Development Accounting
- Oversee job cost accounting, WIP schedules, retainage tracking, and percentage‑of‑completion accounting
- Manage draw processes, lender reporting, lien waivers, and construction loan compliance
- Ensure accurate capitalization of development costs and fixed asset tracking
- Monitor project budgets, cost variances, and profitability analysis
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare consolidated financial statements across multiple entities and projects
- Maintain GAAP compliance and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls
- Oversee cash flow forecasting across development projects and operating properties
- Partner with leadership on debt structuring, refinancing, and capital raises
- Support investor reporting and lender communications
- Build and mentor the accounting team as the company scales
- Improve systems, processes, and reporting infrastructure
- Partner with the CEO on financial modeling, underwriting, and growth strategy
- Play a key role in long‑term planning and transition into CFO responsibilities
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with significant real estate and construction exposure
- Deep understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and development finance
- Experience working with lenders, capital partners, and investors
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on
- Executive-level exposure and influence
- High‑growth environment with real decision‑making authority
