About Us

Fox in the Snow is a premier bakery and coffee shop, with five locations in Columbus. The Company is embarking on an exciting journey to improve its service, products and customer experience. As we evolve, strong financial discipline, clear reporting, and thoughtful controls are essential. We are seeking a Controller to own the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business and provide leadership with timely, accurate, and actionable financial information.

Position

Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions for the company. This role ensures the integrity of financial data, supports budgeting and forecasting, and provides insight into financial performance across locations, the commissary, and corporate operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a growing, entrepreneurial environment—balancing rigor and structure with flexibility as the organization scales.

This position will report to the President.

Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Own the general ledger and oversee all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll coordination, fixed assets, and month-end close.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition, cost allocation, and accruals across multiple locations and business units.
  • Maintain consistent accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts in partnership with leadership.
  • Analyze financial performance by location, department, and channel, highlighting trends, variances, and opportunities.
  • Provide actionable insights on labor, food cost, occupancy, and overhead to support operational decision-making.
  • Support new location modeling, capital expenditures, and ROI analysis.
Controls, Systems & Process Improvement
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Improve accounting systems, workflows, and documentation as the company scales.
  • Partner with operations to ensure accurate inventory, commissary costing, and inter-company transactions.
  • Oversee POS, accounting software, and reporting integrations to ensure data integrity.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity across the organization.
  • Manage banking relationships, reconciliations, and cash forecasting.
  • Support debt compliance, lender reporting, and covenant tracking as applicable.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff or external bookkeeping partners.
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to Operations, Marketing, and Executive Leadership.
  • Support tax preparation, audits, and coordination with external accountants and advisors.
  • Contribute to long-term financial planning and strategic growth initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA strongly preferred).
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Experience in multi-location retail, hospitality, food & beverage, or similar operationally complex businesses preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting systems, POS integrations, and financial modeling.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-growing environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into operational insight.
