What You'll Do
  • Develop a deep understanding of actuarial methodologies and data manipulation techniques.
  • Conduct rigorous analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, to develop insightful recommendations.
  • Document assumptions, methods, and sources in a clear and organized manner.
  • Prepare actuarial findings and documents suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects and meet deadlines.
  • Build strong business relationships across property and casualty multi-channel finance.

This position reports to an Actuarial leader and is part of a team focused on umbrella pricing across multiple business units – Commercial Lines, Agribusiness, and Excess & Surplus. There will be many opportunities to build your foundation of actuarial knowledge through various projects related to rate level indications and risk segmentation. In addition, you'll collaborate with a diverse group of professionals – underwriting, finance, product, actuarial – contributing to a supportive and growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field.
  • Passed two or more actuarial exams.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products and analytical software, as well as programming languages such as SQL, R, and Python.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Work Arrangements
  • This role will work on a hybrid schedule, with 2 days per week at one of our office locations in Columbus, OH, or Des Moines, IA. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Job Description Summary

Our Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state‑of‑the‑art tools, are encouraged to innovate, and learn to master actuarial methodologies. As a Senior Analyst, you’ll learn about the insurance and finance industry, the products Nationwide provides, and a variety of actuarial software. You will be trained in company and business operations while performing mathematical and quantitative actuarial analyses essential to the success of Nationwide and the protection we provide our customers.
