BIM Fabrication Engineer Columbus, OH

MIELKE Mechanical, Inc. is currently searching for a full-time BIM Fabrication Engineer to join their team in Columbus, Ohio! In this role, you will be responsible for advanced modeling and fabrication-level detailing of mechanical piping and plumbing systems using Revit, focusing on fabrication LOD 400+ standards. This role requires expertise in Revit modeling, spool drawings, bill of materials (BOM), RTS points generation, consuming submittal data, and participation in the BIM Coordination process.

The candidate will estimate hours for design and fabrication on awarded projects and be actively involved in BIM coordination workflows, working collaboratively with other subcontractors to resolve clashes efficiently.

The right candidate will have:
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical and plumbing system design and fabrication using Revit MEP.
  • Proven experience modeling at fabrication LOD 400+ including spool drawing development and BOM preparation.
  • Experience producing mechanical skid drawings and working with mechanical pipe fabrication.
  • Exposure to BIM coordination processes and working in multi-discipline project environments.
  • Experience estimating design and fabrication labor hours.
  • Proficient with exporting Robotic Total Station (RTS) points and working with point cloud data for model alignment.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication standards, CAD standards, and construction specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous field experience and estimating experience are preferred.
Our BIM Fabrication Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Develop detailed fabrication drawings and spool sheets aligned with fabrication LOD 400+ standards.
  • Create and manage Revit models including creating templates, schedules of components, parts, and BOMs.
  • Produce RTS (Robotic Total Station) points for hangers, sleeves, layout, and mechanical equipment installation.
  • Produce mechanical skid drawings and coordinate complex plumbing and piping systems fabrication.
  • Estimate design and fabrication hours for awarded projects.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings and lead clash detection/resolution in collaboration with other subcontractors.
  • Work closely with project teams to identify and implement pre-fabrication opportunities to optimize field installation.
  • Utilize point data and model alignment techniques for accurate fabrication modeling.
  • Interpret verbal instructions, sketches, and point data effectively converting them into detailed fabrication-ready drawings.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and subcontractors to ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Review and understand complex construction documents and contract specifications.
