Position Overview

Mantel Technologies seeks a Materials Engineer to support efforts at the nexus of advanced materials and discriminating mission capabilities. This position requires a strong technical foundation in applied materials and engineering, with demonstrated experience contributing to cross-functional teams in support of product and technology development efforts. As a Materials Engineer, you’ll work closely with a diverse technical team on a range of technology and product development efforts.

Active US Government security clearance is strongly preferred. Applicants who are not cleared must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Execute hands‑on work to support prototyping and T&E activities
  • Design and conduct characterization efforts aligned with technical objectives
  • Work closely with senior personnel to develop novel concepts and approaches to solving technical challenges
  • Collaborate with technical team members to design, develop and demonstrate advanced material systems
  • Author test plans and technical reports
  • Work with technical team members to design, develop and demonstrate advanced material systems
  • Lead experimental design and execution of characterization and T&E
  • Work as member of a team to execute against technical plans toward prototype and product end points
What We’re Looking For
  • BS (7+ years) or MS (5+ years) in Materials or Chemical Engineering or related field; MS preferred
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience developing advanced or novel material systems for defense applications
  • Comfort with in-person and virtual meetings; ability to articulate and present technical progress
  • Fundamental understanding of core concepts in materials science and engineering
  • Familiarity/understanding of core chemistry concepts; understanding of structure-property relationships and their practical implications
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience in material system prototyping and test and evaluation activities
  • Experience in developing advanced, multifunctional and/or composite materials including familiarity with processing techniques/equipment/unit operations
  • Practical understanding of structure-property relationships and their impact on material performance
Exceptional Candidates Will
  • Have prior experience with and exposure to advanced sensing systems and their implications on future mission system design
  • Have experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams requiring individuals to both lead and defer based on scope and team composition
  • Have experience transitioning materials from concept toward scalable or fieldable solutions
  • Have experience supporting SBIR, defense-funded, or mission‑driven R&D efforts
  • Have experience supporting technical proposal development
