About The Role
The Utility & Building Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for leading aspects of facility and equipment performance, reliability, and compliance for Chilled Water, Hot Water, RO, Purified Water systems and cleanroom/building infrastructure. The role acts as a subject matter expert in troubleshooting, monitoring, and optimizing critical assets to drive quality, safety, and asset health, and leads or contributes to small capital utility/facility projects.
Responsibilities- Utility Systems
- Collaborate with Facilities and Engineering to establish preventive/predictive maintenance procedures and maintain P&IDs and drawings for Hot Water, Chilled Water, RO, WFI, Clean Steam, and compressed gas systems.
- Own the performance and health metrics of one or more utility systems.
- Track utility performance via Building Alarm System (BAS).
- Building & Infrastructure
- Serve as SME in design of maintenance technologies for building infrastructure (cleanroom architecture, doors, roofing, lighting, exterior access).
- Develop periodic walkdown maintenance checklists for building infrastructure areas.
- Cap Ex Projects
- Lead/sponsor small utility/infrastructure projects (scoping, scheduling, budgeting, execution).
- Provide technical risk assessments for utility systems and building infrastructure.
- Support or lead commissioning/startup and handoff to operations.
- Compliance & Reliability
- Lead closure of deviations, CAPAs, Change Controls, SOPs, and audits.
- Participate in FMEAs, PHAs, and PSSRs; perform maintenance per plan; manage work orders; support shutdowns; drive improvements.
- Collaboration
- Provide SME support for contractor management and externally performed preventive maintenance.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Plant & Reliability Engineering, and Project Engineering on hand-off of new systems; advise on asset standardization and reliability expectations.
- Qualifications
- 5+ years in utilities/facilities/building infrastructure engineering, preferably in a regulated environment (pharmaceutical, biotech, CDMO, FDA).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with WFI, Clean Steam, RO, HVAC, compressed gases, and building automation systems.
- Strong knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance, asset reliability, and risk assessment tools (FMEA, PHA, PSSR).
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities; able to adopt new technologies for clean rooms and facilities.
- Experience with electronic Quality Management Systems (e.g., Veeva) and CMMS (e.g., BMRAM).
- General understanding of process control and computerized systems; CAD experience and ISO/FDA exposure preferred.
- Willing to provide after-hours and rotational weekend support as needed.
