Your OpportunityJoin Stantec’s team in the mid‑west as an environmental remediation project manager supporting complex environmental consulting projects focusing on site characterization and remediation for key clients. This position is open to candidates that will report to either our Columbus or Cincinnati, Ohio offices. Projects will include implementing environmental site assessments (soil, sediment, and groundwater); remediation; spill response; and vapor intrusion investigations in a variety of client service areas throughout the Midwest.
The position requires an independent individual with solid problem‑solving and communication skills, and environmental remediation experience. Project management experience and professional licensure (e.g. OEPA VAP CP, PE, PG) are preferred. A strong interest in community revitalization and the ability to identify and address barriers to bringing vacant and underutilized properties (brownfields) back into healthy and productive use is also preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Stantec’s National Asset Transformation and Brownfields team with grant writing and implementation.
- Perform remedial activities at affected facilities, properties, or sites addressing chemical impacts in air, surface water, soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and/or sediment.
- Conduct intrusive site investigations, Phase II ESAs, facility investigations, and remedial investigations of vapor, surface water, soil, groundwater, and/or sediment to determine the presence or absence, nature, and extent of constituents of concern.
- Collect, interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Compile, evaluate, analyze, and report subsurface investigation data and prepare technical reports.
- Contribute to design and optimisation of environmental remediation systems and strategies.
- Maintain stakeholder relationships with direct communication with clients and regulators and respond to comments and problems promptly.
- Collaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals within the practice.
- Coordinate each project with the client and government agencies as necessary.
- Mentor and provide direct hands‑on assistance when teaching new environmental analyses and writing skills to environmental specialists and staff scientists.
- Stay current with environmental procedures, statutes, rules, guidance and policies.
- Prepare health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, including health and safety management.
- Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.
- Mentoring and/or supervising team members (e.g. engineer or geologists in training).
- Travel may be required for the purpose of overseeing field crews, participating in off‑site meetings, or training.
- Strong technical aptitude and technical/grant writing ability.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally and graphically).
- Ability to prioritise work and make responsible decisions.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to recognise discrepancies.
