Overview
NEPA Project Manager - Environmental Services (Multiple Locations) role with Burns & McDonnell. The Midwest Region is seeking a Project Manager for our Environmental Services Global Practice. The technical areas include environmental studies, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, permitting, siting, routing, project management, client development, and other environmental services.
This position offers growth within a leading firm and involves solving clients’ issues for environmental and engineering practices in project planning and development, permitting, design, and remediation services. The Project Manager will manage tasks for routing/siting, NEPA and related projects, including proposals and cost estimates, budgeting, client satisfaction, and mentoring staff across various industries including transportation, water/wastewater, renewable energy, electrical utility, oil, gas, and chemical.
Responsibilities- Project management, team leadership, and mentoring of junior staff.
- Prepare routing and siting studies, NEPA documentation, and federal/state documentation for environmental projects of various types and sizes.
- Develop, cultivate, and strengthen client relationships.
- Assist with and lead proposal and cost-estimating efforts for environmental and siting projects.
- Regularly interface with agencies, clients, and team members.
- Execute project tasks, manage budgets and forecasts, and deliver client satisfaction.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and judgment to anticipate and solve problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.S. or M.S. in environmental sciences, natural sciences, planning, or related field from an accredited program (degree substitutions allowed).
- Minimum 7 years of related consulting experience in leading and managing technical teams, project management, and business development; experience managing engineering or environmental projects preferred; ability to balance direct and indirect utilization rates.
- Local, regional, and national knowledge and relationships with existing clients preferred.
- Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, renewables, transportation, and related markets preferred.
- Technical competence in natural, cultural, or socioeconomic resource fields applicable to siting, licensing, and environmental permitting projects.
- Ability to work with diverse industry, government, and public contracts on project matters.
- Ability to attract and retain clients and build backlog, revenue, profit, direct labor, and ROI over time.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working understanding of GIS.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience working with both private and public-sector clients; client relationship development is a plus.
