Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Columbus, OH – Full-Time/Regular

Position Summary

We are seeking a full‑time Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in the Easton area of Columbus, OH. The role will support a variety of high‑profile projects across highways, bridges, aviation, rail & transit, marine & ports, water & wastewater, dams & levees, and buildings markets. Key projects include Greendale Levee (Greendale, IN), Long Bridge North (Washington DC/Northern Virginia), I‑95 Electronic Toll Lanes, and the Harry W Nice/Thomas "Mac" Middelton Bridge Replacement (Maryland & Alexandria, VA).

The position will also support highway and bridge projects for ODOT, PennDOT and other transportation clients in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee geotechnical investigations
  • Develop and implement subsurface investigation programs, including test borings, cone penetrometer, dilatometer and geophysical surveys
  • Perform engineering analysis of soils and rock for shallow and deep foundation systems, slope stability, excavations, retaining systems, dewatering systems and soil improvement
  • Prepare geotechnical reports and memoranda
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications and cost estimates
  • Respond to requests for qualifications and proposals
  • Assist in marketing efforts to grow the geotechnical engineering practice in Ohio and Pennsylvania
  • Conduct and manage on‑site geotechnical inspection and engineering services during construction
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • BS in Civil Engineering with a concentration in geotechnical courses
  • 5 to 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including analysis, report writing and proposal preparation
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as gINT, SLIDE, SETTLE3, LPILE, ALLPILE, ReSSA, and LRFD design
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a proven ability to develop innovative solutions to various geotechnical challenges
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with team members, clients and contractors
  • Field experience, including walking, climbing and accessing steep slopes or natural obstacles
  • Capacity to handle multiple projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
  • Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff is expected
Preferred Experience
  • MS degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Micro Station/CADD preferred
  • Experience on Federal, State, County and local projects, including ODOT, PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission
Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Field work is required on occasion, including exposure to heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
