The Applications Engineering Manager is a key leader responsible for quoting, engineering, sales, and costing activities. This role requires strong collaboration in a cross‑functional team environment and direct management of the applications engineering and domestic project engineering teams. The manager will oversee quoting, costing, client support, and supplier selection. Additionally, the selected candidate will develop formal proposals for power continuity solutions and provide support to both the factory and the client after the proposal is transitioned into an order.
Key Responsibilities- Set department and individual employee goals that align with overall business objectives and strategies.
- Drive the strategy and execution to enhance quoting rigor by leveraging AI and other tools to analyze customer requirements and select optimal production solutions.
- Identify and implement new processes and procedures to improve the efficiency and accuracy of quoting.
- Provide expert product knowledge and industry application support to the application and project engineering teams, customers, and the sales channel.
- Support clients, sales managers, and sales representatives in all pre‑sale activities.
- Assess potential applications of AMETEK products and recommend solutions that meet customer needs.
- Develop and assist with bid costing spreadsheets based on customer requirements and establish selling prices in line with business goals.
- Generate proposals for products and systems, including commercial terms, technical compliance, shipping details, and project‑specific requirements, while highlighting product advantages and customer benefits.
- Deliver client and field support through deep product and industry expertise.
- Prepare cost estimates based on requirements and determine selling prices in accordance with business objectives.
- Collaborate with design and R&D engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Act as a liaison between the client and operations.
- Review product design for compliance with customer specifications and industry standards, including safety.
- An Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited program is required.
- MBA is a plus.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
- Previous management experience working in applications engineering for 3‑phase industrial equipment.
- 8+ years of experience with industrial UPS products or related markets.
- Strong technical and business skills, ability to communicate with executives, clients, employees, and business partners. Strategic thinker who understands and anticipates customer needs.
- Strong project management, communication, interpersonal, and team leadership and organization skills, and ability to work closely with other team members to meet objectives and deadlines.
- Strong business skills combined with in‑depth knowledge of industrial batteries, AC‑DC rectifiers, DC‑AC inverters, and AC‑AC voltage regulators.
- Familiarity with relevant state and federal codes and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations (NEC, UL).
- Knowledge of electrical applications for high and low voltage electrical systems.
- Previous experience working with or for an EPC on large construction projects.
- Experience reviewing contracts and terms and conditions.

This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus will keep you entertained all year.
